Rob Moir

'Adventure Handbook' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Aug 24, 2015

Dead Letter Dept. frontman Rob Moir stepped out into the spotlight with his solo debut Places to Die in 2013, and now he's ready to unleash his sophomore effort Adventure Handbook. Before it officially lands later this week, though, Exclaim! is streaming the record in its entirety.

The new songs emerged from a hectic two years on the road, with Moir revisiting classic American rock'n'roll and simple folk tunes for inspiration. A press release describes the album as "a burst of optimism and excitement about doing what you love and a pledge to not becoming dormant when there are endless possibilities in ones life."

It's an attitude that Moir has adopted in his professional life as a musician, enduring years on the road, travelling by car, van, plane, train and even bicycle to bring his songs to fans. For the new record, he's enlisted the help of his sister and fellow Toronto musician Yvonne Moir on saxophone, as well as his backing band the Great Lates (Harley Haskett, Mike LeBlanc and Olivier Mercier).

Following the optimistic opener "New Years Eve," Moir moves on to exploring uncertainty, spontaneity and adventure on tracks like "Run For Your Life and "Ports of Call." His travels continue through the bluesy "The Wilderness I Know" before it all wraps up on an upswing with surprisingly chipper "The Lonely Tourist."

Adventure Handbook arrives on August 28 via Underground Operations, but you can scroll past Moir's upcoming Canadian tour dates to give it an early listen in the player below. Check out the full list of Moir's upcoming international shows here.
