Rob Halford only just released Firepower with Judas Priest earlier this month, but the iconic vocalist is still ruminating on the exploration of new musical avenues — namely a foray into the world of black metal.
Speaking with Noisey, the metal icon revealed his continued interest in working within the adjacent metal subgenre, saying that a project "keeps being about to lift the launchpad, but it never quite gets anywhere."
"I met Nergal from Behemoth recently, and I said to Nergal, 'You know I love your kind of music. I would love to kind of put my toe into the water and see what would happen,'" Halford told the site. "So now I've got these two very nebulous but I hope at some point very real opportunities to do something with Nergal and still something to with [Emperor's Ihsahn]. Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, that's my big Emperor album. Both of them are incredible — they just have this real mastery of their world."
Nergal confirmed his interest on Instagram, posting a headline and tagging his potential collaborators with the message, "Now fuckin' deal with it! Anyways… with such vibes within metal community the future has no fuckin' limits."
Of course, the wait for whatever the three cook up could be a while, with Halford about to hit the road on Judas Priest's forthcoming North American tour. Ihsahn is gearing up to release new solo LP Ámr in May, while Behemoth will join Slayer as a supporting act for the iconic thrash outfit's farewell tour.
