Rivers Cuomo Plays In Celebrity Soccer Challenge

The Home Depot Centre in Carson, California, this past Saturday, hosted the Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra Celebrity Soccer Challenge. Sadly, Snoop Dogg didn’t show up to play football, but Weezer's Rivers Cuomo laced up his cleats to bend it like the Beckham.

According to ESPN.com, Cuomo started the scoring affair by bulging the old onion bag for his squad. The L.A. Dodgers’ Garciaparra coached his team, which also included Landon Donovan, Tony Hawk, actor Anthony LaPaglia, comedian Carlos Menica, and former pitcher Jim Abbott among others.

"It was a dream come true. Passing with [the L.A. Galaxy’s] Landon Donovan and going against [former soccer pro] Mia Hamm – it’s just unreal. I was terrified, but I was so excited that the excitement overcame the terror,” said Cuomo.

Unfortunately for the sweater king his squad lost the match to Hamm’s 11, which included Extreme Makeover’s Ty Pennington, Heroes’ Milo Ventimiglia and Y&R’s Eric Braden.

On the music front, Cuomo released a solo collection of unreleased music called Alone – The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo last December and is currently working on a new Weezer album with Rick Rubin, scheduled for release some time this year.
