R.I.P. Major Harris of the Delfonics

BY Josiah HughesPublished Nov 12, 2012

A former member of legendary Philadelphia soul group the Delfonics, singer Major Harris has passed away at the age of 65. Caused by congestive heart and lung failure, he died on Friday (November 9).

After performing in various groups in the '60s, Harris joined the Delfonics after the departure of Randy Cain in the early '70s. In that band, he performed on the hits "La-La (Means I Love You)" and "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)."

In 1974, Harris left the Delfonics in pursuit of a solo career. He achieved a number of hits on his own, most notably with the 1975 classic "Love Won't Let Me Wait."

Harris reunited with some members of the Delfonics for a one time reunion show last year.
