Reggae star Lucky Dube was killed Thursday (October 18) in Rosettenville, Johannesburg when he was carjacked after dropping off his two children at their uncle’s house. Police say the son of South Africa’s biggest reggae artist saw the crime take place and ran to get help, and so far five men have been arrested in connection with Dube’s murder.

Lucky Dube recorded more than 20 albums in his 20-plus year career, the latest of which was last year’s Respect. He was given the name "Lucky” due to his poor healthy upon birth, and led a teetotaller’s lifestyle, despite claiming kinship to Rastafarianism’s political, social and personal consciousness. He is survived by his wife Zanele and their seven children. Lucky Dube was 43.
