Richard Hinge

Munich Manhattan

BY Philip DowneyPublished Feb 1, 2002

Munich Manhattan is not at all what I expected, which was 101 imitations of I-F's "Space Invaders are Smoking Grass." Instead, New York DJ Richard Hinge takes us on a great tour through the Disko B label's catalogue. The first half-hour of the disc is electro, while the next 40 minutes are techno. There are moments of beauty and weirdness in the melodies and the beats and most of the mixing is done quite well, except for a few patches where the songs are not in tune - a sometimes unavoidable occurrence, but still jarring. Overall, it's a very enjoyable mix that will make me pay more attention to the Disko B label in the future.
