Rhye Readies Piano Project 'Spirit,' Shares New Song

After releasing and remixing his Blood record last year, Rhye is already returning with a new album.

Titled Spirit, the latest effort from Mike Milosh's project will arrive May 10 through Last Gang. Eight tracks in length, Spirit was born out of Milosh rediscovering his love of playing piano.

"About a year and a half ago, my girlfriend surprised me with a borrowed piano," Milosh recalled in a statement. "It wasn't in the best shape, but it made itself at home in my apartment and I started playing it every morning…just messing around at first, but it slowly became a morning ritual I couldn't shake."

The album finds Milosh collaborating with Ólafur Arnalds, Semisonic's Dan Wilson and Thomas Bartlett. A first taste of the effort arrives today with the Wilson-assisted "Needed," which you can hear below.

"'Needed' is a song about something greater than wanting someone in your life, or to be wanted, or liked or loved," Milosh explained of the track. "It's about that deeper yearning to be needed by someone you love, to feel that sense of purpose. Maybe we don't all feel that, but for those who do, I can only hope that this song touches you."

Following a May 25 appearance at Toronto's CBC Music Festival, Rhye will tour festivals around the world before returning to Canada for a run of dates in September. You can find his Canadian itinerary below.
