Rey Pila

'The Future Sugar' (album stream)

Mexico City's Rey Pila delivered their debut full-length back in 2010, and now the five-piece electro-tinged indie rockers are ready to return with their sophomore offering, The Future Sugar. Before it arrives next week, though, Exclaim! is streaming the new record in its entirety.

The band teamed up with the Strokes' frontman Julian Casablancas to record three of the new tracks on the album, while the remaining six songs are the result of sessions with producer Chris Coady (Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs). The final product is a crisp nine-song collection that injects indie rock standards with a hefty dose of synth-pop.

From feisty, upbeat album opener "Fire Away" to gloomier, shoegazier numbers like "White Night" to the delightfully '80s-esque "Nerds," the record showcases the band's array of approaches to making music that throws back to retro fun, but retains a sense of polished modernity.

The Future Sugar arrives in Canada on September 25 through Arts & Crafts. Give it an early listen in the player below.
