Revolting Cocks

Cocked and Loaded

BY Monica S. KueblerPublished Jun 1, 2006

Rock/industrial/sleaze super group the Revolting Cocks are back with Cocked and Loaded. In their present incarnation the Cocks’ line-up includes Al Jourgensen (Ministry), Gibby Haynes (Butthole Surfers), Rick Nielson (Cheap Trick), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), Phildo Owen, Mark Baker (Ministry) and Stevie Banch, but if you were to think that this was the only "name” talent on this disc, you’d be dead wrong. Songwriting credits extend to include — whether through covers or more formal co-writes — notables like Iggy Pop, Peter Murphy and Daniel Ash. Like their previous efforts, the band’s pitch-black sense of humour remains intact and despite some political leanings in the liner notes, refreshingly the Cocks’ still don’t take themselves too seriously (if you need further proof, tracks like "Fire Engine” and "Viagra Culture” should put any arguments to rest). While perhaps not as instantly catchy as some of their releases, Cocked and Loaded seems poised to grow on listeners with its mixed bag of frenetic, driving industrial, experimental rock and even the occasional hook-laden track. Rev Co don’t try to reinvent the wheel with Cocked and Loaded, choosing instead to play it safe with the tried and true formula — meaning long-time fans should be pleased, even if no new ground is particularly broken.
