Resurrection Sorrow

Hour Of The Wolf

BY Keith CarmanPublished Jan 4, 2010

Raised on swampy boogie rock, influenced by the plodding insanity of early Soundgarden, yet adoring the incendiary thrust of the NOLA heavy music scene, New York's Resurrection Sorrow have a ballsy fury going on Hour Of The Wolf. Slightly more rock-tinged than one would expect from such inspiration though, the album's ten tracks tend to meander more than outright assault. Still, with a throaty, forceful vocal style, guitar lines that are just dirty enough to be menacing, yet not overdone, and some pretty enterprising songwriting, it's stable enough to merit slotting amongst the more legendary stoner rock efforts in one's collection. It just won't be played quite as often.
