Repartee

"All Lit Up" (Muneshine remix)

St. John's four-piece Repartee released All Lit Up earlier this year, and now the title track has been treated to a remix from fellow Canuck music maker Muneshine.

In a press release, frontwoman Meg Warren explained that the track is about supporting a loved one through a difficult time. "There was a specific catalyst. I basically wrote it about my partner," she explains. "There's a line in the song: 'like a beacon I'll be all lit up, you can follow me out of the dark.' So there's definitely a visual connotation of lightness and darkness."

That imagery caught the eye and ear of prairie-born MC and producer Muneshine, who was inspired to put his own personal touch on the track.

"I was immediately hooked on Megan's voice, and the band's style and writing," he tells Exclaim! "It was a lot of fun putting my own spin on an already-powerful track. I wanted to keep its pop sensibilities while pulling it in more of a smoothed-out, throwback direction with my brand of electronic flavour."

That retro, electro tinge adds some additional sparkle to the track, keeping the nightclub-ready vibes totally in tact. It's a smooth, slinky jam that's sure to incite some disco-inspired dance parties — and Repartee agree.

"I didn't really expect it to take on such a chill vibe," guitarist Robbie Brett tells Exclaim! "When I heard we were getting 'All Lit Up' remixes, I expected it to go in the direction of more bass drops, layered kicks and snares and intricate hi-hat patterns in the vein of EDM. Instead, this smooth, almost nu-disco meets Caribbean type take came to fruition, which really compliments Meg's melodies. It's a great summer jam to dance to whether it's in a club or on a beach!"
