R.E.M. Get Psyched for Upcoming Double Live Album with New Teaser EP

R.E.M. have announced they will release a live, digital-only EP on July 7 as a preview for their upcoming Live at the Olympia double album.

The four-track Reckoning Songs from the Olympia will be available for download at iTunes and other sites, and will feature the songs "Harborcoat," "Letter Never Sent," "Second Guessing" and "Pretty Persuasion" from the band's 2007 "Working Rehearsals" at Dublin's Olympia Theatre. The EP will serve as a stop-gap between the recently released Reckoning Deluxe Edition and the fall release of the double live album, which chronicles the band's five-night run at the Olympia in the summer of 2007.

Live at the Olympia, produced by Jacknife Lee, will relive the band's experimental live sets at the Dublin venue, where they debuted several new songs each night in front of sellout crowds.

According to Blurt, 11 of the songs debuted during the five shows ended up on Accelerate, R.E.M's 14th studio album. The live sets also featured some of band's earlier work, including rarely played songs off of Murmur, Reckoning, Fables of the Reconstruction, Life's Rich Pageant and Document. A full tracklisting for the double live album, which is due out in October, has yet to be released.
