Published Mar 10, 2011If it seems like only yesterday that R.E.M. unveiled a new music video. But, well, that's because it was. The group are currently in the process of releasing 12 short films -- one for each track on the newly released Collapse into Now -- and they aren't wasting any time rolling them out. Today, we have three new clips, one for "Walk It Back," another for "Alligator Aviator Autopilot Antimatter" and a live performance of "That Someone Is You."
The clip for "Walk It Back" was directed by French artist Sophie Calle. It's a strange blend of images, showing a woman dancing in a parking garage, a fly sitting on the menu at a restaurant and a horse urinating. We're not quite sure how this relates the atmospheric, piano-driven ballad, but we're not complaining. See it below via Dazed Digital.
Scroll past that to see the clip for "Alligator Aviator Autopilot Antimatter." A stomping rocker that recalls 2008's Accelerate, the song is accompanied by a video that shows a bearded Michael Stipe, joined by guest vocalist Peaches, standing around while dressed in a variety of surreal costumes. This one comes via Pitchfork.
Lastly, we have a live in-studio performance of the fast and furious "That Someone Is You." Backed by their usual session musicians, the trio blaze through the song in less than two minutes. R.E.M. told Beatweek that they currently have no touring plans, so this may be the closest we get to experiencing the new record in person. It comes from Cluster 1 at Consequence of Sound.
