R.E.M.

Live at Tyrone's O.C., 1981

Over the past few months, we've all been getting excited for R.E.M.'s upcoming 15th LP, Collapse into Now. We've already brought you "Discoverer" as well as the Eddie Vedder-assisted "It Happened Today". This time, we're taking a look back with a recording of one of the band's earliest gigs.

The radio show Studio 360 is offering up the bootleg, which it claims was recorded in 1980 at Tyrone's O.C. in Athens, GA. This would make it the band's second ever performance under the name R.E.M. As Slicing Up Eyeballs points out, however, the setlist actually matches a show from 1981, which also took place at Tyrone's O.C.

Whatever the case, it's an 83-minute R.E.M. recording from the early '80s, so we're not complaining. Listen below, and be sure to pay special attention to the cover of the Velvet Underground's "There She Goes Again" which starts around the 11:30 mark.
