R.E.M.

"Discoverer"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Dec 15, 2010

A while back, R.E.M. announced their new album, Collapse Into Now. The group have now given us a taste of what's to come via first single "Discoverer."

While the track has a bit of that classic Peter Buck jangle we've come to love, its intro of thudding drums and fluttery six-strings has the guitarist coming across more like U2's the Edge dipping into a highland songbook. Michael Stipe's vocals waver as much as ever, up until the moment he leads a powerful gang chant of "Discoverer." This could very well be the most arena rock-suited tune the Athens, GA outfit have ever written.

You can nab the track now at the band's website here, so long as you fork over your email address.

Collapse Into Now has the recently revealed release date of March 8 on Warner Bros.
