R.E.M. "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" / "IHT>U>EDIYTW (Dubmix)"
R.E.M. are currently gearing up for the release of their new LP, Collapse into Now, which will feature high-profile contributions from Eddie Vedder, Patti Smith and Peaches. While we still haven't heard a song from that album, the band have now unveiled a new Christmas single, plus an instrumental mash-up of new material.

Each year, the band release a holiday song for members of their fan club. This year, it's a cover of the Phil Spector classic "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" by Darlene Love. Michael Stipe sat this one out, handing over lead vocals to bassist Mike Mills. Excitingly for R.E.M. fans, it features ex-member Bill Berry on drums.

They also released an instrumental medley of three songs from the new album: "It Happened Today" (featuring Eddie Vedder), "Uberlin" and "Every Day Is Yours to Win." The mix is called "IHT>U>EDIYTW (Dubmix)." Judging by this three-minute clip, the album looks to fulfil the band's promise of an "expansive" sound. Listen to both tracks below.

Thanks to Cover Me for the heads-up.
