First off, those beefs. Increasingly loud-mouthed DJ deadmau5 got things going by calling Madonna a "fucking idiot" due to the singer making some not-so-cleverly-veiled drug references, while Black Keys' Patrick Carney took a swipe at internet mogul Sean Parker over Spotify, a streaming service the band have been very vocal about hating. But perhaps the biggest showdown of the week came courtesy of Fucked Up main man Damian Abraham, who laid some hurt on Katy Perry over her recent war-themed music video, something that didn't sit too well with the pop singer's legion of fans.
Also, this week was riddled with band breakup announcements. Forest City Lovers revealed they were calling it a day and so too did Air France and Jet (if you even remember who those dudes are). And there were several big album announcements, including some from Wintersleep, the Walkmen and Japandroids, who revealed all the details of their upcoming Celebration Rock and a North American tour. And speaking of tours, Refused unveiled a pile of new reunion dates, including some here in Canada.
In more news, Jack White revealed the world's first 3 RPM record, Stereolab kicked off a new vinyl reissue campaign, Jay Reatard is getting another posthumous reissue via a new Lost Sounds release and Magnetic Fields' Stephin Merritt is gearing up for a new Future Bible Heroes record.
Finally, the Flaming Lips are out for blood, literally. For their new Heady Fwends release, the rock weirdos are actually trying to get the blood of collaborators like Bon Iver, Yoko Ono, Ke$ha and Chris Martin so they can infuse the vials of red stuff with the vinyl. Yep, you can't make this stuff up.
