Red Hot Chili Peppers Recruit Street Artist Mr. Brainwash to Promote New Album

If you've ever seen Bansky's fascinating documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop, then you already know all about Mr. Brainwash (aka Thierry Guetta). Mr. Brainwash rose to fame by befriending successful street artists and then mass producing his own work. His street art is so generic-looking that many have suggested that Mr. Brainwash may be a hoax perpetrated by Banksy himself. Well, it looks as if Guetta has found a new assignment: promoting the upcoming Red Hot Chili Peppers album.

TMZ shows pictures of Guetta pasting up posters in Los Angeles. Along with some characteristically pedestrian street art images, the posters are emblazoned with the Red Hot Chili Peppers' asterisk logo plus the date "8-30-2011."

Of course, that's the release date of I'm With You, which is RHCP's upcoming tenth album. According to TMZ, these posters are everywhere in L.A., and the artist reports that "his job is far from done."

This isn't the first time that Mr. Brainwash has made his mark on the music world. In 2009, he created the album cover for Madonna's greatest-hits collection Celebration.

The Chili Peppers are clearly eager to team up with famous artists on I'm With You, seeing as they hired Damien Hirst to create the album cover.

In other RHCP news, today (July 14) it was revealed that the band's new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer would be making an appearance on the new Boom Bip album.
