After recently revealing that they were mixing their long-planned new album, Red Hot Chili Peppers have promised fans they'll be releasing some new music on Thursday (May 5).
The band dropped word of the single today (May 2) through their Twitter account, where they wrote that it will be premiered on Thursday. Judging by the scribbly image attached to the tweet, the song — or perhaps the new album — is called "Dark Necessities." Whatever the new record is called, though, it will mark RHCP's follow-up to 2011's I'm with You.
As previously reported, drummer Chad Smith had posted a picture of himself and Nigel Godrich in a recording studio this past March, writing that the Chilis were mixing the album with the Radiohead producer "at the helm." The studio sessions for the LP have also had the long-running project working with Danger Mouse.
Bassist Flea had previously explained that the record would take the Red Hot Chili Peppers in a new direction, and offer "super danceable, funky shit and some real introspective, pretty stuff."
The group has a number of summer dates lined up, including Canadian appearances at Ottawa Bluesfest, Osheaga and Festival d'été de Quebec. You can see the rest of the Red Hot Chili Pepper's tour details over here.
