Red Fang Return with 'Whales and Leeches'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jul 26, 2013

Portland stoner quartet Red Fang are ready to blaze again, having just announced a new LP is on the way. Titled Whales and Leeches, the group's next set drops October 15 via Relapse.

The band's follow-up to 2011's Murder the Mountains found them re-teaming with producer Chris Funk (Decemberists) and mixer Vance Powell (White Stripes, Raconteurs, Kings of Leon) earlier this year at Portland's Type Foundry facility.

While sound samples of the set have not yet been delivered, a press release confirms that the third Red Fang LP will feature 11 "killer" anthems, though the deluxe CD and LP editions will include two extra cuts. The band had previously described in a statement that "the basic tracks are like rabid monkeys." You can see the standard edition's tracklist below.

Whales and Leeches also finds Red Fang get helping hands from Yob's Mike Scheidt and Black Heart Procession/Three Mile Pilot member Pall Jenkins, though those guest appearances have yet to be detailed in full.

Meanwhile, the outfit have unveiled graphic artist Orion Landau's unsettling, wilderness-imbued cover art, which you can see up above. The deluxe editions of the LP will feature a lenticular, moving cover, as well as expanded packaging.

In other news, the band are following a recent trip to Europe with a hometown show and a festival gig in Montana, and you can see the concert info down below.
