This week sees the release of the highly anticipated videogame Red Dead Redemption 2, and going along with it is one hell of a soundtrack. Contributing to the music are the likes Daniel Lanois, Colin Stetson, Arca and many more.
As a press release reveals, the score was composed by Woody Jackson (Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto V), but a wealth of other notable musicians are providing "additional music and arrangements," including Colin Stetson, Matt Sweeney, (Chavez, Zwan) David Ferguson, David Ralicke, Gabe Witcher, Luke O'Malley, Mario Batkovic, Rabih Beaini and Senyawa.
Besides that, "over 110 other musicians" are providing even more music, including Arca, Mars Volta/Queens of the Stone Age drummer Jon Theodore, former Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band drummer James Gadson, Duane Eddy and more.
As for the contributions from Daniel Lanois, "all of the vocal moments in Red Dead Redemption 2" are produced by the esteemed Canadian musical figure.
The press release adds, "In addition to Lanois' production, the soundtrack features additional vocal performances from a range of award-winning artists to be revealed soon. All songs for both the score and soundtrack were created exclusively for Red Dead Redemption 2."
The exact release plans for all this musical content outside the game are so far a bit unclear, but Red Dead Redemption 2 arrives on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Friday (October 26) via Rockstar Games.
