Red Animal War/Slowride

Red Animal War/Slowride

This CD is divided up a little differently from your average split. On these six songs, the two bands play in sequence instead of in sets. If you have this on in the background and aren't really paying attention, it's kind of subtle. But when you look at the track listing, the difference is more apparent. The first band is Red Animal War with "77," a song that sounds something like early U2 crossed with emo. Slowride take the slightly slick and melodic sound that Jawbreaker used on its final record, Dear You, and makes it their own, especially on "Dear John," which sounds almost like a cover of "Fireman." If you're looking for music that doesn't sound like the average emo release, this split may be worth a listen.
