Record Store Day 2012 Gets New Releases from Sufjan Stevens, Ryan Adams, Neil Young's Mynah Birds
Record Store Day seems to keep gaining momentum with each passing year, and the 2012 instalment looks to be no exception. This year's event takes place on April 21, and the list of high-profile releases just got a whole lot bigger.

Wax Poetic has just rolled out a massive list of this year's upcoming exclusives, and here a just a few of the highlights.

First off, Sufjan Stevens, who recently unveiled his project s / s / s, will drop a split seven-inch single with Rosie Thomas (the songwriter he was falsely rumoured to be having a baby with a few years back). Entitled Hit & Run Volume 1, this one contains two songs: "Where Were You?" and "Here I Am!"

Then there's Ryan Adams, who will release a coloured vinyl single featuring two live versions of Bob Mould covers. "Heartbreak a Stranger" and "Black Sheets of Rain" were recorded live last November at a tribute show. This is limited to 2,500 copies.

Of special note for Canadian fans is a single from long-lost '60s group the Mynah Birds, featuring Neil Young and Rick James. This single, featuring "It's My Time" and "Go On and Cry," consists of recordings made for Motown in 1965 that were never officially released.

Another oldie comes courtesy of late punk icon Joey Ramone. We'll get a taste of his forthcoming posthumous album Ya Know? with a single containing "Rock & Roll Is the Answer" and "Go On and Cry."

There will also be yet another new single from Bonnie "Prince" Billy. This jam-packed seven-inch will contain a trio of covers: "Hummingbird" (originally by Leon Russel), "Tribulations" (originally by E.C. Ball) and "Because of Your Eyes" (originally by Merle Haggard).

Some more covers will come courtesy of Andrew Bird, who will offer up versions of Alpha Consumer's "The Crown Salesman" and Handsome Family's "So Much Wine" on a seven-inch.

Then there's a seven-inch from Regina Spektor, who has recorded two Russian traditional tunes -- "The Prayer Of François Villon" and "Old Jacket" -- for the occasion, while David Bowie's "Starman" will be pressed on a picture disc backed with that live Top of the Pops version of "Jean Genie" that emerged last year.

Wax Poetic also points to the following: a T. Rex Electric Sevens seven-inch box set, a Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band seven-inch, a picture disc single of Morrissey's "Suedehead" featuring a Sparks remix, a Neon Indian ten-inch, a Metallica Beyond Magnetic four-track twelve-inch EP, Lee Hazelwood's The LHI Years -- Singles, Nudes & Backsides LP, Sigur Ros's Hvarf/Heim on double-LP, an Amon Tobin box set, and Luna's Romantica and Rendezvous LPs.

Other confirmed or rumoured releases this year include that Mastodon/Feist split, a coloured vinyl release from St. Vincent, a Common-featuring J. Dilla single, plus a number of previously reported discs (the Xiu Xiu/Dirty Beaches split, the Dinosaur Jr. electro album, the Flaming Lips collaborations LP, Captured Tracks' series of releases, a Tomahawk box set and even more).
