Published Nov 02, 2010For participants, the concept behind the Record of the Week Club is a daunting one: three musicians who have never met convene in the studio and are given one day to write, record and mix a brand new song. The song is then released via the Winnipeg label Head in the Sand.
The project was first unveiled back in 2009 with a 16-part series that included contributions from members of the Weakerthans, the Waking Eyes and Novillero, among others. Now, it will be returning for another run, this time backed by CBC Radio.
The new series of the Record of the Week Club began late last week with "On the Street," which features Vancouver songstress Hannah Georgas, Royal Canoe leader Matt Peters and jazz drummer Curtis Nowosad. A press release describes the track as a "romping song about a guy walking down the street playing a bass, oblivious to the world."
Like all of the Record of the Week Club releases, the track was produced Michael Petkau Falk. It was laid down at Private Ear Recording in Winnipeg.
