Re-making The Band

Tribute

Montreal’s Royal Mountain Band have scored a gig most Canadian groups would die for: playing the Band in Todd Haynes’ Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There. Technically, they appear as the Hawks, backing up Cate Blanchett as Dylan in scenes depicting their landmark 1966 world tour that drew intense reactions at each stop. When it was decided to film these scenes in Montreal, the Royal Mountain Band beat out several others at an open casting call with a faithful rendition of Dylan’s "Ballad Of A Thin Man.” "We don’t look unlike the Band, so I don’t think that hurt either,” says singer/guitarist Tavis Triance.

"The only tedious part was having to constantly smoke cigarettes.” The group plans on releasing its own debut album by the end of the year as well.
