As we recently reported, veteran Canadian bands Rational Youth and Psyche have teamed up for a synth-pop cover of AC/DC's "Thunderstruck," and with the 7-inch's release coming up on November 25 via Artoffact Records, the single can be streamed early on Exclaim.ca.
This cover interestingly remains fairly faithful to the elements of the original song while still reworking the arrangement entirely. The finger-tapping guitar lick is recreated with an arpeggiator, while the chanting melodies are conveyed with synth melodies and vocoder. With '80s-esque drum programming anchoring the groove, the song is transformed into a half-spoken duet.
On the B-side is "Underrated," an original tune which captures a similarly punchy synth-pop pulse. Hear both songs below.
