Rasco

The Birth EP

BY Del F. CowiePublished Oct 1, 1999

The Birth does indeed represent a new start for this West Coast battle MC. In an interesting move, Rasco has left the stable of Peanut Butter Wolf’s Stones Throw label, which released his criminally overlooked’98 full-length Time Waits For No Man. Peanut Butter Wolf’s production is also absent on this release on Rasco’s own Pockets Linted label. But for all these changes Rasco’s approach to the music remains essentially the same. Relying on driving, crisp beats issued by His-Panik of Chicago’s Molemen, Rasco continues to target wack MCs on tracks like “Back On the Scene” and “Dues and Don’t’s” with his trump card raspy skills. An added bonus is “Blood Brothaz” with about-to-blow MC, Planet Asia, a very tasty preview of their upcoming collaborative Cali Agents project.
