While we've already got a big glimpse of what Record Store Day 2017 has in store, new releases are continuing to be revealed. And since no RSD is complete without at least one David Bowie exclusive, this year we'll get two.
For the April 22 event, Parlophone will officially deliver the previously unreleased Bowie live album Cracked Actor (Live in Los Angeles 1974) and the ultra-rare Hunky Dory-era promo album Bowpromo.
Cracked Actor (Live in Los Angeles 1974) will come as a sprawling 3-LP vinyl set, with the release capturing a Philly Dogs Tour show at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on September 5, 1974. The full concert is featured on the five-sided album, with the sixth side being an etching of the Diamond Dogs-era Bowie logo.
The multi-track tapes were officially mixed last year by longtime Bowie collaborator Tony Visconti, and the album features new artwork, which you can see above.
A press release states: "The album differs greatly from Bowie's David Live album (also from 1974), as it features a new band line up including soul legend Luther Vandross on vocals. It also has a different set list including two tracks that had just been recorded for the album The Gouster, which was finally released for the first time last year as part of the critically acclaimed Who Can I Be Now? box set."
As for Bowpromo, the album was originally released in super scarce quantities in 1971 and contained alternate mixes of tracks that would go on to form Hunky Dory. The original A-side featured seven Bowie tracks (five of which later appeared on Hunky Dory), while the B-side was filled with songs from another artist on the GEM roster, Dana Gillespie.
For the official RSD release, Bowie's side will only be included, and the release will feature "five exclusive Bowie prints and new sleeve notes regarding the original promo, all housed in a special presentation box."
