Rape Pillage and Burn

Songs of Death...Songs of Hell

BY Denise FalzonPublished Jul 20, 2009

This debut release from Rape Pillage and Burn comes a whopping ten years after the Dallas, TX death metal band's inception. But that may be due to the fact that the members have been a little busy with other projects, particularly Swedish bassist/backing vocalist Richard "Daemon" Cabeza, who's infamous for his work with the likes of Dismember, Murder Squad, Carbonized and Unanimated. Songs of Death...Songs of Hell is a five-song EP clocking in at just over 16 minutes, featuring some of the most traditional death metal tunes for a debut effort, sounding as if it was released during the late '80s or early '90s. The EP is distinctively within the vein of Obituary and early Six Feet Under, and although Rape Pillage and Burn are essentially duplicating the long-accepted death metal songwriting formula, they do it well. These tracks come together to form a decent release of very old school-sounding, straightforward death metal.
