New Version of Radiohead's "Bloom" Soundtracks a Tragic Shark Tale in Greenpeace Ad

A solo piano version of the 'King of Limbs' track accompanies 'The Lonely Shark'

Thom Yorke has teamed with Greenpeace to support the ocean's struggling shark populations — a new, Yorke-only piano rendition of 2011's King of Limbs opener "Bloom" is the soundtrack for Greenpeace's new ad spot The Lonely Shark, which is an animated and very sad short about, you guessed it, a lonely shark.

It's a pretty grim and somewhat gory little story, so watch at your own discretion (but consider signing the petition for a strong Global Ocean Treaty either way).

"In the last 50 years the global shark population has plummeted by 70%," the video's description reads. "Sharks are being wiped out by overfishing for profit. But our oceans can recover if we protect them."

This isn't the first time that Yorke and Co. have rerecorded "Bloom" in service of mother nature; back in 2017, Radiohead teamed up with Hans Zimmer to rework "Bloom" for the BBC series Blue Planet II. That version, recorded with the BBC Concert Orchestra, was called "Ocean (Bloom)."
