R. Kelly's Girlfriend Joycelyn Savage Speaks Out Against Him

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Nov 25, 2019

One of R. Kelly's girlfriends, Joycelyn Savage, has spoken out against the singer.

A new Patreon page claiming to be run by Savage has unveiled details of her relationship with Kelly, who is currently awaiting trial for sex-related charges from multiple women.

The posts on Patreon accuse Kelly of sexual and psychological abuse, and many of the details mirror accounts told in the Surviving R. Kelly docu-series.

Savage says she met Kelly at a concert in 2015, after which he flew her to California with the promise of launching her career as a model and singer. She said that she recorded songs at his studio that have never been released.

Nineteen years old when she met Kelly, Savage says that she fell in love with him, but he soon became very controlling — making her call him "daddy" or "master," not allowing her to enter certain parts of his house, preventing her from speaking to her parents in private or telling her what to say to them, and employing assistants to watch her at all times (even in the shower). She claims that if she attempted to disobey him, he would threaten to end her career.

Teasing the Patreon posts on Instagram, Savage hinted that she was breaking a non-disclosure agreement to reveal details of her relationship with Kelly, claiming, "I am risking my life for many others."

Until recently, Savage publicly supported Kelly. She appeared on Good Morning America for an interview with Gayle King earlier this year, denying that she was being abused or brainwashed. Kelly was revealed to be listening in on the interview from backstage.

In response to the Patreon posts, Kelly's lawyer sent the following statement to Variety:

It is unfortunate that Jocelyn [sic] now seeks to make money by exploiting her long time, loving relationship with Robert. Obviously if she were to tell the truth no one would pay so she has, unfortunately, chosen to regurgitate the stories and lies told by others for her own personal profit. We know the real facts, and it was not until the money ran out that she decided anything was wrong. Hopefully people will see it for the obvious profiteering it is.

The Patreon posts are available here.

Kelly has been incarcerated since July, on multiple charges of sexual abuse in three different states. He has denied all allegations against him.
