Published Oct 07, 2009As if his story couldn't get any weirder, sex-crazed R&B star, and heir to Michael Jackson's unfinished work, R. Kelly has upped the ante. The bizarre hitmaker behind classics like "Ignition," "Gigolo" and "Wanna Make a Baby" may have found a perfect excuse for the terrible metaphors littering his work: he can't read.
While sermonizing about the music industry at Midwest Music Network's Funeral for Hate, Kelly passionately describes his struggle to the top, even going as far as admitting that he can't read. The direct quote, as transcribed by Prefixmag, says, "Look, I don't even read really, and I'm not even afraid to say that. My cousins and brothers used to tease me, 'You can't even read, how you think you gon' come up?' You know what I'm saying, the only reason I graduated from grammar school is because I got a good jump shot."
And while a "jump shot" may or may not be some sort of weird sex act performed with a teacher, those words came straight from Kelly's mouth.
Here's the video proof. The quote can be seen at the 2:08 mark, but watch the whole thing if you want some shout-talking about the music industry.
