Published May 30, 2019Following a series of charges laid against him in February, R. Kelly has been hit with 11 more sex crime charges in Chicago. Some of the charges carry a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
According to various media reports, the performer was charged with 11 more sexual-assault related charges today by Cook County prosecutors.
Kelly has reportedly been charged with four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, two counts of criminal sexual assault by force, two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against a victim between the ages of 13 to 16.
At this point, there are conflicting reports as to whether the charges pertain to one victim or several.
According to Chicago Tribune reporter Megan Crepeau, the charges are more severe than the previous charges Kelly faced:
These Class X sex assault charges are far more serious than the other pending cases he faces. That's the most serious class of felony in Illinois, short of murder. 6-30 years mandatory. pic.twitter.com/TucuQU7mt9— Megan Crepeau (@crepeau) May 30, 2019
Kelly's alleged sex crimes were heavily documented in the Lifetime series Surviving R. Kelly. It was recently followed by a two-hour follow-up special called Surviving R. Kelly: The Impact.
