Sam Jayne — a veteran indie musician who performed in the bands Love As Laughter and Lync — has passed away at the age of 46.

Jayne was first reported missing on December 12. Yesterday, it was reported that he had been found in his car. An NYPD spokesperson told Pitchfork that there were no "signs of criminality" in a preliminary investigation.

The musician started his long and storied career with the '90s post-hardcore band Lync, who released a number of singles on K Records, as well as the album These Are Not Fall Colors. After Lync disbanded, he fronted Love as Laughter and released albums on K and Sub Pop.

Jayne was also a temporary member of Modest Mouse and performed on Beck's seminal One Foot in the Grave album.
