Longtime Mazzy Star drummer Keith Mitchell has died. He passed away on Sunday (May 14), though his cause of death is still unknown as of press time.
The news came through Mazzy Star's social media channels, along with a statement from bandmates Hope Sandoval and David Roback.
"Our hearts are broken," they wrote. "We have lost the much beloved Keith Mitchell, a very talented and amazing drummer that we have had the privilege to work with for many years, he will live in all of our hearts forever.... We'll miss you, Big Fella."
Mitchell helped form Mazzy Star from the ashes of Los Angeles group Opal, for whom he also drummed. He appeared behind the kit on each of Mazzy Star's studio albums, including 2013's Seasons of Your Day.
