Queens of the Stone Age are busy getting ready to follow up 2013's ...Like Clockwork right now, but that's not the only thing in store from the group. It's just been revealed that band leader Josh Homme has penned his first-ever film score.
Homme has teamed up with German filmmaker Faith Akin to compose the music to the director's new film In the Fade, Variety reports. The movie just premiered at Cannes, and according to the publication, it's "a contemporary drama about a woman who takes revenge after her husband and son are murdered by the neo-Nazi group National Socialist Underground (NSU)."
Speaking of getting Homme to score the film, Akin said the following:
That was a big surprise. When I was writing this, I was listening to a lot of music by Queens of the Stone Age. I had the feeling that this could be the music that the character was listening to, It has a self-destructive attitude and somehow the film is about self-destruction. I sent him a very early version of the film. He immediately called back saying he loved it and was blown away and that he would like to put his hands on it. We phoned maybe four or five times, sent 10 emails back and forth and then I had the music. It was a very uncomplicated, fast and very clean process of working.
Right now, it's unclear when In the Fade will see wide release and if or when Homme's score could come out. For now, watch the film's trailer below.
As of yet, there's also no firm word on when Queens of the Stone Age will release their anticipated new album, though they've been hinting at it heavily these days.
