Pylon Get Reworked by Deerhunter, Sasha Frere-Jones and Sleigh Bells' Alexis Krauss on New Single

We haven't heard much from new wave pioneers Pylon since the passing of guitarist Randy Bewley back in 2009. And while it seems unlikely that they will ever release a new album, fans now have something new to look forward to. On July 19, DFA will drop a new Pylon seven-inch called Cover + Remix.

Like the title suggests, the single contains two Pylon songs that have been given makeovers by Deerhunter and Calvinist (aka Sasha Frere-Jones), who has roped in Sleigh Bells singer Alexis Krauss to contribute vocals.

On the A-side is Deerhunter's cover of Pylon's debut single "Cool." Over the years, frontman Bradford Cox has been very vocal on his love for Pylon, who also call Georgia home, and a press release reports that the cover features "an anticipatory bassline and a sudden flash of guitars." There's also "a newly extended instrumental interlude: an almost grooving section that keeps the guitars going as pleasant noises swell and circle underneath before overtaking the sound."

On the flip, Calvinist took on the track "Yo-Yo." This remix is reportedly "decidedly less frenetic than the Pylon original" and includes "Sleigh Bells singer Alexis Krauss's nice-with-more-than-a-hint-of-naughty vocals." There's also two version: one called "The Calvinist Saved Mix" and another dubbed "The Calvinist Unsaved Mix."
