Tool leader James Maynard Keenan returned to his occasionally wacky art project Puscifer in 2011 for the album Conditions of Parole and followed it up with the 2012 EP Donkey Punch the Night. Now, he's announced the latest release from the electro-rock outfit: a remix album called All Re-Mixed Up, which is due out on August 27.
This is a track-by-track re-imagining of Conditions of Parole. The contributors include Sir Mix-a-Lot, Alain Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures), Aaron Harris (Chino Moreno's side-project Palms), John Fryer (This Mortal Coil), Rani Sharone (Stolen Babies) and more.
As you can see the from the tracklist below, many of the remixes bear goofy subtitles like "F.U.B.A.R. remix" and "Giorgia O'Queef mix." That's the decidedly silly artwork up above.
Keenan said in a statement, "All Re-Mixed Up is the continuation of the Puscifer tradition to release alternate versions, reworks, and remixes of what we consider initial thoughts. For instance, Carina Round was nervous about how to approach her version of 'Telling Ghosts.' Mat Mitchell put her at ease by asking her to think of it as a song half written, advising her to 'now write the other half.' It's extremely liberating in the digital age to approach composing and creating in this manner. Infinite paths to explore, reinterpret, and re-present."
