Punk Biographer Jon Savage Compiles California Punk Mix for Domino Records
Although he's best known for his 1991 Sex Pistols biography, England's Dreaming, British rock journalist Jon Savage has a knowledge of punk rock that extends far beyond Johnny Rotten and company. With his massive body of published work, which ranges from punk zines in the '70s to his time writing for NME and Mojo, there's no doubt that he's the kind of guy who would make a mean playlist.

Working with Domino Records, Savage has done just that. The label has announced a new 26-track mix called Jon Savage Presents Black Hole Californian Punk 1977-1980. The record compiles tracks from classic Californian punks like the Germs, the Screamers, X, Urinals, the Avengers, the Dead Kennedys and many more, and will serve as an excellent introduction to the first wave of west coast punk.

As Domino puts it, "This compilation contains ideas, anti-establishment rants, sharp comments about the world, attempts at transcendence and plenty of savage wit." The label will release the mix on November 15 in the UK. The CD version will most likely be available in Europe-only, although a digital download will also be available.
