Prophets

"Desperate"

Hamilton-based metalcore crew Prophets are aiming to follow up their 2012 debut The Youth with a sophomore effort in the new year, but before it arrives in full, the band have shared a brand new single called "Desperate" — and Exclaim! has got your exclusive first listen.

"'Desperate' is a track for those who know that they've made mistakes that are irreversible," singer Ian Flynn said in a statement. "This is a track that really hits home and brings some inner demons to the forefront."

Given that context, the song is unsurprisingly heavy. It gets progressively more aggressive as the inner demons are expelled, though there are brief breaks to show off melodic guitar lines and emotionally charged, sung-not-screamed refrains.

The song will appear on the band's upcoming second record, which is going by the name What I Hide and is due out in early to mid-2016. Flynn calls it the bands "most personal release to date."

You can get introduced to Prophets' revamped sound at their upcoming Burlington, ON show on December 5, but first, give "Desperate" a spin in the player below.
