Denver, CO's Primitive Man and NYC's Unearthly Trance have joined forces for a split LP that contains seven nihilistic tracks of sludgy blackened doom and harsh noise. The two bands released completely devastating albums last year, and this split features a similar vibe to both, as their distinct yet complementary sounds each exude crushing heaviness and unbridled misery.
The split starts off with "Merging," which is a grating one-minute noise collaboration between both bands that seamlessly transitions into Primitive Man's diverse, ten-minute opus "Naked." The track begins with dissonant feedback that slowly builds up to an exceptionally dark, doom-laden dirge that is anchored with Ethan Lee McCarthy's intense, corrosive vocals.
The piercing "Love Under Will" is a more subtle, yet equally suffocating noise track from Primitive Man, before Unearthly Trance pick up the pace with the heavy and abrasive "Mechanism Error." Vicious riffs and unsettling gloomy tones continue throughout Unearthly Trances's "Triumph" and "Reverse the Day," while their final track "418" brings the split full circle and ends the release with a haze of bleak discordance.
