Preoccupations and Protomartyr Swap Covers on New Split 7-inch

The release comes ahead of their joint North American tour

Preoccupations and Protomartyr are about to head off on a co-headlining tour, and they've just revealed an extra item for the merch table: a new split 7-inch.

Adding some novelty to it, the release actually features the tourmates covering each other, with Protomartyr performing their rendition of Preoccupations' "Forbidden" and then Preoccupations taking on Protomartyr's "Pontiac '87."

Right now, you can hear Protomartyr's version of "Forbidden" below.

In a statement, Protomartyr singer Joe Casey had this to say of the band's cover: "There's an old adage that goes something like, 'if you're going to cover a song by a beloved Canadian band, it's best to pick the second shortest one.' So, 'Forbidden' it is. We all really liked the outro part and had the brilliant idea to extend it. And that, my friends, is how you make musical history."

The 7-inch will arrive via Domino on November 16.

As previously reported, the bands' co-headlining North American tour will kick off in Toronto on November 23. You can see all the dates below.

Preoccupations released the band's latest album New Material earlier this year, while Protomartyr put out their Consolation E.P. back in June.
