Published Nov 21, 2013If you're looking to expand your collection of vinyl singles, you're in luck. Polyvinyl has just announced a new single series through which it will offer 12 new monthly 7-inches containing exclusive recordings from some buzzworthy indie acts.
Among the artists involved are Cloud Nothings, Hospitality, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, John Vanderslice, Mikal Cronin, Dianne Coffee, Porcelain Raft, Mynabirds, Matt Pryor, Efterklang, Sexton Blake, and Into It. Over It.
The project is dubbed the "Polyvinyl 4-Track Singles Series," because all of the music was recorded on a Tascam four-track recorder. The label purchased the four-track and shipped it to an artist, asking that contributor to record two songs with it; that artist would then send it onto the next, and so on. In total, the four-track travelled more than 20,000 miles (or about 32,186 kilometres for us Canadians) between artists.
Each of the 7-inches will be pressed on clear vinyl and come with a download code. The subscription will be limited to 500 copies, and buyers will get a custom box to house the records. The cover artwork was all cohesively designed by artist Jason Munn.
The package costs $120 and shipping is free within the U.S.; subscriptions within the U.S. will ship at monthly intervals, while international orders will be shipped quarterly. Those who subscribe before December 31 will get an exclusive T-shirt, slipmat and chance to receive a test pressing of one of the singles.
