The Polyphonic Spree's Tim DeLaughter Reveals New Band

Though he's best known nowadays for his time fronting the culty, harmonic pop outfit the Polyphonic Spree, songwriter Tim DeLaughter got his start in '90s alt-rock luminaries Tripping Daisy. Now, he's re-teamed with his former Daisy bandmate and one-time Secret Machines member Philip E. Karnats for a new band.

Regardless of how you rate the band names Tripping Daisy or the Polyphonic Spree, this band is easily the worst named project these musicians have been involved with, as it's called Preteen Zenith. Still, with support from the Spree's drummer Jason Garner and guitarist Dylan Silvers, it will likely stay in line with the members' common thread of melodic indie rock.

Pitchfork reports that Preteen Zenith will make their debut at the Gorilla vs. Bear Festival in Dallas, TX on July 23, with plans to release some recorded music as well. Despite this new project, however, the Polyphonic Spree remains active, and DeLaughter promises that we can also expect new music from that band.
