Despite Canada getting wrapped up this week in biggie festivals like NXNE and Sled Island, there was still lots going down in the world of news. If you feel something passed you by, here's just some of what went down this week.

First off, Canada's coveted Polaris Music Prize has revealed its 2014 long list. Among the 40 artists who made the list are the likes of Drake, Arcade Fire, BADBADNOTGOOD, Shad, Cousins, Mac DeMarco, Bry Webb and many others. We won't know the short list until July 15 and the final winner until September 22, but for now see who's in the running for the year's prize.

In other news, Jello Biafra had some harsh words for both Amnesia Rockfest and his old Dead Kennedys pals thanks to what he calls a booking "scam," "Weird Al" Yankovic revealed his Mandatory Fun LP, a release date and title for the new Ryan Adams LP seemed to have emerged, Gaslight Anthem announced Get Hurt, and Bruce Springsteen is hinting at some sort of new release.

Back in Canada, Constantines announced more reunion shows, Hollerado spinoff Stella Ella Ola revealed their new debut album and Mac Demarco launched portrait-drawing contest.

Finally, it appears as if much of the late Lou Reed's gear will be auctioned off.
