Published Jun 16, 2012Once again, we've combed the headlines and pulled together a choice selection of this week's top stories. So if you're feeling a bit out of touch, come get back on top of things with our news roundup.
First off, it's that time of year again where the Polaris Music Prize has rolled out its 2012 long list. Among the nominees for this year's $30,000 prize are Canadian acts like Japandroids, A Tribe Called Red, Mares of Thrace, Feist, Fucked Up and Leonard Cohen. We won't get a shortlist until July 17 and a winner till September 24, but for now, see all the artists currently in the running.
In more scandalous news, Smashing Pumpkin Billy Corgan got a lot of attention this week over his comment that he'd like to "fuckin' piss on Radiohead," while Drake and Chris Brown got into some kind of messy dust-up, the details of which are still unclear. Oh, and Glenn Danzig made his way into the news again for all the wrong reasons, after he halted his recent Bonnaroo set to chew out a photographer.
Then we had Riot Fest Toronto announcing its inaugural lineup that includes Descendents, NOFX and Fucked Up; David Byrne and St. Vincent revealing their long-gestating collaborative album; METZ signing to Sub Pop; and Gentleman Reg rolling out the beginnings of his next album.
Finally, if you're a Ryan Adams fan, you may want to get your order in for his massive new box set, as we're seriously doubting this thing will be available for long.
