Poirier

'Be Alright' (EP stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Oct 18, 2017

Montreal electronic vet Poirier releases his latest EP next week, but Exclaim! is giving you the chance to stream Be Alright in its entirety right now.

The four-song offering hears Poirier moving away from his signature dancehall, dub and soca sounds and towards a more dancefloor-ready Afro-house-inspired vibe.

The record opens with "Sowia," channelling southeast African influences with its guitar hooks, bassline and Portuguese vocals by Canadian-Moçambican singer Samito. "Ginobili" implements the mbira (traditional wooden instrument), while "Camera" pays homage to Angolan Semba music. The EP then comes full circle, closing with an extended instrumental version of the opening track, dubbed "Antilles Trax."

"Montreal is such an inspiring city, a city where people and culture converge and meet," Poirier tells Exclaim! "These four songs reflect that environment and my love of the music from the Caribbean and from Africa — with a special head nod to Afro-house."

Hear it for yourself below. Be Alright is officially out October 20 via Wonderwheel Recordings, and you can pre-order the release here.
