Nothing to Stay For and Nowhere to Go

BY Brent HagermanPublished Mar 1, 2004

The desolation inherent in the album title is represented in Tyler Shipley's vocals and lyrics but thankfully not in the band's music. Solemn acoustic pop stately executed sums up this Winnipeg quartet's sound. Shipley does a good job capturing the vocal emotion of Leslie Spit Tree's Laura Hubert in "Ghost" and elsewhere Adam Hanson's blistering electric guitar adds moments of levity in the midst of gorgeously sedated ballads. Unfortunately any hopes this band has of getting positive international attention will be dashed after the CIA gets hold of the lyrics to "Terrorist in a Bunny Suit."
