Plants and Animals

Made up of nearly equal parts transplanted Maritimers and Francophones, Plants and Animals are poised to become the next big something if writers are only able to come up with the proper tag — post-jam improvacateurs? Tribal French indie rock fusion? What their Pop Montreal show proved, regardless, is that they’re a bunch of good time-enjoying, scarily talented musicians. From "Faerie Dance,” which builds from slow and funky to a bat-shit crazy French tribal chant, to "Mercy,” which rides a feverish tambourine into a full-on rock climax, Plants and Animals are a sweaty, beer-soaked good time.
