Pixies Cancel First-Ever Israeli Concert

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jun 7, 2010

Following the likes of Elvis Costello, Gil Scott-Heron and Santana, long-standing alt-rock quartet Pixies have decided to cancel their first-ever concert in Israel due to the ongoing complications between Israelis and Palestinians. Many suspect that the band's decision was influenced by last week's flotilla attack, which resulted in the death of nine pro-Palestinian activists.

A short statement from the band reads: "The decision was not reached easily and we all know well the Israeli fans have been waiting for this visit for far too long. We'd like to extend our deepest apologies to the fans but events beyond all our control have conspired against us."

Along with Pixies, Gorillaz and Klaxons have pulled out of upcoming Israeli shows as well.

Though Pixies won't be heading to Israel this week, they have expanded their lengthy tour in celebration of Doolittle's 20th anniversary. The tour continues through July, August and September with dates in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and across the United States. Sadly, they don't have any Canadian dates at this time.
